The BTBC project became a reality as a result of a unique partnership and collaboration among the BTBC, the City of Lawrence, Douglas County, KS, the Kansas Bioscience Authority (KBA), and The University of Kansas (KU), The Kansas University Medical Center (KUMC) The KU Endowment Association and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.
According to BTBC Executive Chairman LaVerne Epp, the level of collaboration between these entities is unprecedented and represents a new model for successful economic development efforts. Epp says,“The commitment shown by the city, county and state agencies, as well as the university, is unique. By leveraging the strengths of all those groups in a project like this we have been able to accomplish a goal that is greater than the sum of its parts. It is our belief that this model will play a critical role in helping commercialize the region’s rapidly growing life sciences research base while bolstering the local economy.”
