Our Team

Mr. McClorey is the President of the Bioscience & Technology Business Center (BTBC) where he helps clients create, build, and grow early-stage life sciences and other high-technology companies. McClorey has worked with dozens of startup technology businesses, specializing in corporate strategy, operations management, financial management and early-stage capital fundraising. Since joining BTBC in 2002, the center’s clients have raised over $180,000,000.

McClorey helped raise $7,500,000 to finance construction and operations for Phase I of the BTBC Main Facility at the University of Kansas and was responsible for managing the design and construction of the building. McClorey manages the facility and provides business development consulting services to tenant companies.

Prior to joining the BTBC, McClorey was the Vice President of Business Development and Portfolio Management for the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC), where he evaluated startup technology companies for seed capital investment, managed a multi-million dollar portfolio of high-technology debt and equity investments, and provided management consulting services to portfolio companies.

McClorey came to KTEC from Deloitte Consulting, where he was employed as a senior consultant in the communications practice. While at Deloitte, he worked primarily with Fortune 1000 companies providing strategy and information technology consulting services. McClorey earned his J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Kansas and his B.A. in Business from Benedictine College.

In addition, in 2006, McClorey co-founded Mid-America Angels, a regional network of angel investors that provides capital to early-stage, high-growth businesses. Since its inception, the organization has grown to nearly 100 members and has invested over $7,000,000.

Frank Kruse has spent his career commercializing novel, high-growth Life Sciences technologies within larger corporate entities or for venture-backed start-ups. A farm boy from Central Missouri, Frank went on to the University of Missouri for degrees in Agricultural Economics and Russian Studies before attending advanced language training at Leningrad State University with Duke University and further training at Cornell. He finished his education with an MS Ag Econ at North Carolina State University.

His professional career started with leading new product introductions into Russia and the Far East for FMC Ag Chemicals. He moved on to run international sales and marketing for a variety of life sciences companies including 7 years directing international introductions, marketing, and other commercial relations for Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica. Frank has formed 2 start-ups and been part of 2 more. Prior to joining the Bioscience & Technology Business Center as its VP & Executive Director, he was responsible for Global Business Development Herd Management Technologies for DeLaval Corp. a Stockholm Sweden based dairy equipment and technology company.

With the BTBC, Frank works with a great team and dedicated stakeholder institutions focused on fostering start-ups from the University of Kansas and the surrounding region.

Frank is married for 20 years to Nancy with whom he lives with their 4 kids on a farm outside of Smithville.

As Director of Operations and Client Development, Mr. Morrison is responsible for evaluating potential clients and works closely with current clients, helping them develop all aspects of their business, forge their immediate and long-term strategies, and maximize their chances for success.

Morrison brings a breath of experience to the BTBC staff. He started his professional career with Commerce Bank & Trust in Kansas City, Missouri, and remained in the banking industry as the Vice President of Credit Administration for a $300 million community bank. Prior to joining the BTBC in 2010, Mr. Morrison was the manager for a small private equity firm for over 7 years, investing in early stage technology companies and commercial real estate.

Mr. Morrison received both his MBA and BS in Business Administration from the University of Kansas.

Alex Couchonnal McManus has over ten years experience providing business development and consulting services to life sciences and technology start-up ventures, small and mid-sized companies and nonprofit organizations.  Alex is the Director of Operations and Client Development for the Bioscience Technology Business Center (BTBC) at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), a business incubator focused on creating and growing early-stage life sciences and high-technology companies.  Alex is responsible for evaluating the technology commercialization potential of KUMC-based technologies, as well as delivering business development services to incubator clients and local start-up companies.  Prior to joining BTBC, Alex helped develop and launch a start-up career advancement program for Swope Community Enterprises in Kansas City, Missouri.  Alex began her business consulting career with Aon Consulting in Chicago, Illinois.

Alex earned an MS in Technology Commercialization from the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business, an MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from the University of Kansas and a BBA in Finance from Southern Methodist University. She lives in Kansas City, Missouri with her husband, Kevin.

Michael joined BTBC in May 2008 as part of the BTBC/KU Internship Program, upon entering the Full-time MBA program at KU. As Director of Special Projects, Michael currently manages the marketing of the new Bioscience & Technology Business Incubator located on KU’s West Campus. Michael’s previous work experience includes commercial real estate, most recently for Prudential Commercial Real Estate Solutions. Michael received his MBA and BS in Business Administration from the University of Kansas School of Business.

As Director of Financial Services for the BTBC, Michael is responsible for providing all needed financial services to the Center’s clients, including such services as bookkeeping, tax preparation and planning, budget preparation and financial forecasting. Michael received his BA in Business from Washburn University and has been a practicing public accountant for thirty years focusing primarily on small business ventures. Michael also has several years of experience in the banking and finance industry and has been part of the Lawrence business community for over 22 years.

As Office Manager, Kerri coordinates the day-to-day operations, performs the office management duties for the Center and its clients, and serves as the Administrative Assistant to the President. Kerri’s background includes over 23 years of business administration experience in a number of industries.
